About Us - Lovettsville Lions Club Facts

As one of over 44,000 clubs in 189 countries and geographical areas, the Lovettsville Lions Club has been serving the Lovettsville, Loudoun County, and Lions worldwide communities for over fifty years. We are very proud of our heritage and the many members who have contributed to its on-going success during this period of time.

Our membership, like our community, is diverse. Our first woman member joined in June 1995. Since then, we’ve been fortunate to have an additional 10 women join the club. Many of these individuals have served in various club officer and/or committee chairperson positions. As of March 2003, female membership in our Lions District 24A represented 16.7% of the total members. Our women members comprise 23.4% of the Lovettsville Lions Club total membership and we hope to increase this percentage as we gain new members. We’re delighted with the ideas and contributions these women have made to our club!

The majority of our members, typical of the US Lions population, are 40+ years of age. This has created a recruiting problem because most of us tend to associate with persons our own age. Notwithstanding, our members are "young at heart" and most interested in having ‘younger’ persons join in the fun. We have a definite need to attract, retain, and fully utilize the skills of individuals in their thirties and twenties . . . this is our future and, our most significant challenge.

Our various fundraisers generate the money we donate back to worthy causes. Unlike other organizations, every single penny raised goes back to the community. Our administrative expenses are borne by our individual members. Our constitution and by-laws prohibit the co-mingling of funds between our administrative and community accounts. Bottom line, no other service organization operates in this fashion.

We’ve grown to a size that allows us to ‘seed’ another club in the greater Lovettsville community. What does this mean to you and your friends? Essentially, we can support creation of a club that has unique community interests and/or charitable goals. The only restriction is that the new club conforms to the Lions Clubs International Objects, Code of Ethics, and organizational structure. Our District’s Alexandria Asian American Lions Club is an example of how this might support either your ethnic and/or diverse needs of our community. All we need is for someone to step forward and get the ball ‘rolling’.
